This morning, as I sat with my coffee, gazing out of the window at the sky, I breathed a sigh of relief.
A sigh that said, this is it.
What is this, you may ask?
This was a sign.
Something my soul has always used as a signal to say you’re going the right way. A signal of calm reassurance.
A signal that says, it’s time.
And in that moment, I realised that all the ups and downs experienced over the past ten months were for a reason. They were hurdles set out to help me find my new direction.
Like almost all human beings, I have kicked and screamed my way, metaphorically speaking, through the last ten months, reluctant to believe that the universe could know better.
Feeling so empty at times, I couldn’t see past the door.
I know that this isn’t the way, but when your heart is broken and empty, it’s hard to believe there is light on the other side.
Not knowing the exact way forward, I buried myself in my research. Reading more, gaining clarity and perspective. Learning why humans react the way they do. For I have wanted to master the art of letting go, of trusting that the universe has my back, for a very long time. Even when I couldn’t see how. And this seemed like the perfect time to put it all to the test.
It’s no secret that when life is full of fear, doubt, and risk, it’s awfully hard to trust. To have faith.
When we’re backed up against a wall with nowhere to go, it’s almost impossible to know, without doubt, that a better path awaits. But this time, I was determined to stop pushing.
You see, I have fought an inner battle for most of my life. To be better, do better, and try harder. And yet, I am not where I want to be. How is that possible? I have worked every hour God made. Listened to the people who said that sleep is for the dead. Battled my way through life, toiling in vain.
My input totally disproportionate to output.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed much of my journey. Helping those in need, seeing magic in other people and helping them grow. But my own life has felt on hold. Like I was waiting for something. But for what?
Because of this, I decided to teach myself to take a softer path. A path that aligns with my values, not my fears. A path that starts each day with a new journey. One that opens more the more I let go.
I have always been a visionary. A dreamer. Somebody who can be in the middle of a storm and still find a way out. That is an inherent part of who I am. And so, I knew I just had to let go. In my heart, what I want is clear, but it also seemed impossible from where I was.
Then I read something I’ve read many times before, but for some reason it landed this time, right where I needed it most.
The universe doesn’t work in time. Time is man-made. Imposed to create order.
Put simply, when change is ready to show up, it cares not for time. It cares only about finding the right person for the right dream. Even though I couldn’t see a way, a way was being formed. Little by little, my daily dreams were finding a way through. A path opening to get me from where I am to where I’m meant to go.
And this morning, as I sat with my coffee, I knew I had arrived.
